Italia 13.98 offers endless possibilities. The synthesis of the elegance of its clean and powerful lines goes together with the precious care of the details in the interior to define a new level of luxury yachts. After the launch took place in the summer of 2012, Italia 13.98 has received numerous international awards, becoming “European Boat of the Year 2013 in the Luxury Cruiser category”, and was voted by the public “Queen of the International Boat Show in Genoa 2012” and winner of the “ADI Nautical Design Awards” for its interior design.
Italia 13.98 is a luxury cruiser yacht designed both for excellent performances during sailing, as to ensure the highest levels of comfort on board. Fast and perfectly balanced, Italia 13.98 is easy to handle with great control and safety, even by a small crew. The ergonomics and lightness of maneuvers allows precise adjustment of the sails in search of maximum speed. Large spaces in the cockpit, a comfortable flat deck, lots of storage spaces, the bright interiors finished in fine teak wood, make life aboard into a pleasant experience of sophistication and elegance.
The entire deck is free of ropes, which appear only in the proximity of the six winches. The mainsail cart runs beneath the floor of the cockpit. Skylights are not seen, but there are fiftheen of them, all flush deck. The deck is free from rigging, thanks to the innovative internal diagonal path and to the “inverted T” mainsheet. Moreover, the swimming ladder is hidden inside the removable teak covered sundeck, the outdoor table is ready to use stowed in the locker at the center of the cockpit. We could go on like this, pointing out that the furling system is below deck, halyards are collected under the hatch where the trap is hidden inside... but maybe it’s time to open the spray hood, integrated in the carter on the deck, and let your senses enjoy so much wonder.
Careful design choices give to Italia 13.98 maximum structural rigidity, together with a remarkable lightness. Hull and deck are laminated in sandwich with differentiated density PVC core; the unidirectional and biaxial E-glass fibres are laminated with vinylester resin. The lamination is carried out at controlled temperature between 16 and 25°. Plates are included in the structure to increase resistance where the deck hardware is mounted. The collar of the mast is structural.
There is a structural carbon reinforced frame glued and laminated to the hull bottom. The structural bulkheads of Italia 13.98 are made of marine plywood 15mm to 25mm thick and are glued and gusseted to the hull and deck. The deck is glued and laminated to the hull. A polyester strap is provided to lift the boat (optional). Hull and deck are finished in gelcoat; walkable areas are prepared with antiskid from female mould. Cockpit benches and cockpit floor are covered with teak 10 mm thick.
Each model is - as standard - already fitted to reach maximum performance. The keel, is “T” shaped with steel structure and the torpedo is cast lead with 3% antimony; the steel structure is enclosed in a CNC fiberglass shell in order to optimize the wing sections: as result, the hull is perfectly smooth and hydrodynamically efficient, virtually ready to race.
It is in the DNA of Italia Yachts: build light boats, fast, extremely easy to handle and safe, to use for cruising and racing, without having to change anything with modifications or enhancements. Three tons of ballast in the keel give the boat a good righting moment, to the benefit of a confortable and efficient navigation. The rudder blade is laminated in fiberglass with PVC core on female moulds. The aluminium alloy (anticorodal 6082) rudder stock is biconical. The stock bearings are self-aligning. The two wheels are 90cm in diameter and are made in stainless steel covered by leather.
The classic and clean lines of Italia 13.98 win from the first glance. Yet, you can appreciate better the design choices looking at... what is not visible. First of all, the entire deck is free of ropes, which appear only in the proximity of the six winches.
We could go on like this, pointing out that the furling system is below deck, halyards are collected under the hatch where the trap is hidden inside... but maybe it’s time to open the spray hood, integrated in the carter on the deck, and let your senses enjoy so much wonder
The cockpit, the removable sundeck, the flush deck skylights
The cockpit is open aft but it can be closed by a removable teak covered sundeck: the ideal solution for a quiet and safe navigation, as to enjoy an easy access to water. After removing the sundeck, Italia 13.98 shows off a big open cockpit, assuming a more aggressive look, perfect for racing. Both the beach and cockpit benches are entirely covered in fine teak wood, while the teak bridge is optional. Cushions are also available to fit the cockpit. The deck ergonomics of Italia 13.98 is studied in detail, such as the double wheel with the wheels mounted on columns that allow optimum control both at sea and a smooth transition to the forward cockpit. The sunbathing area on the deck is flat and smooth, thanks also to the flush deck hatches. The access to the interior of the cockpit is through a sliding hatch and a 2 pieces retractable vertical closing tablet made of Plexiglass. The accessibility of adjustments is exemplary, both for a single man crew, with the mainsail winches near the helmsman, both for a crew navigation.
Lockers: plenty of space for storage
Five large lockers provide plenty of space for storage during the cruise, with a deep sail locker in the bow separated from the anchor locker. A locker positioned in the center of the cockpit is designed to accommodate the liferaft, which can be thrown into the sea without having to raise, thanks to the special precautions in the design of the locker. Two side lockers are housed on benches. Detachable footstops are provided for the helmsman.
